without a lot of extra $$$ spent on new components (wheels, pedals, seat, shimano internal hub) you don't have much of a bike here.
that said, i've put >6k in strictly urban riding (with the good components) and have found the bike to be more than adequate. but why spend 50% of the retail price on components that actually make the bike work?
swobo customer service folks aren't very helpful/nice either.
